Gent Boss Lifts The Lid On Orban's Struggles

The manager of KAA Gent, Hein Vanhaezebrouck has admitted that things are not going too well for the club’s striker, Gift Orban.

The coach stated this in reaction to the drop in the goalscoring form of Gift Orban, a Nigerian striker who was very prolific in front of goal last season and at the beginning of this season.

In recent weeks, Orban has been having a difficult spell in front of goal as he has managed to score twice in seven games this season, and he has gone four games without scoring.

The Nigerian striker’s abrupt decline in performance following his practically faultless performance in the previous campaign stunned a lot of people.

The Nigerian player transferred from Stabaek to Gent in January, and despite entering in the middle of the campaign, he managed to score 20 goals in 22 games, attracting the interest of teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

Orban became the center of the attack when Gent advanced to the UEFA Conference League the previous season. Due to his impressive form, many people anticipated that the Nigerian would have another season similar to or better than that of last season.

However, the striker has struggled even in training, according to Vanhaezebrouck, who was speaking ahead of their UEFA Conference League encounter against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday which ended 2-0 in favour of the Belgian side.

“Things are not going so smoothly with Gift either in training,” the manager said as quoted by Nieuwsblad.

He added, “It’s very simple: someone who plays fantastically well in training always plays. Or you have to be new like my neighbor (points to Gandelman, ed.) because then you sometimes have to pick up some things. We also think it’s strange, but I also mentioned that last year: then everything worked and everything was great. Sometimes things just don’t work out, and Gift is just in such a moment, but that can also make him stronger, once he finds his way to the goal again.”
