Robert Lewandowski sustained the injury following a challenge by Porto’s David Carmo in the Champions League game which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Spanish team.
Based on this development, Robert Lewandowski will not play this weekend’s La Liga game between FC Barcelona and Granada.
Despite Barcelona’s assertion that Lewandowski’s condition is only a sprained ankle, the Catalan daily reports that Lewandowski may be out for longer than a month. This would make Lewandowski unavailable for their crucial encounter against Real Madrid on October 28.
Some media outlets have reported the diagnosis more favorably; Diario AS said that the grade two sprain might keep him out for three to four weeks. As a result, his presence would be uncertain until the very last second.
Lewandowski intends to make a comeback for the Real Madrid match, despite other media outlets reporting that he won’t be fit enough for the El Clasico game.
A statement from FC Barcelona earlier today, October 5, reads: “Tests carried out this morning have revealed that Robert Lewandowski has a left ankle sprain.
