In a recent interview, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, discussed President Tinubu's invitation to opposition presidential candidates to join his administration. Obi emphasized that he is currently focused on challenging the election results, which must be resolved first to ensure the country's president is elected through a credible process. During an interview on Arise TV's 'The Morning Show,' he explained that they are also contributing to the nation by being in the opposition but stressed the importance of fair elections.
Obi additionally highlighted the need to secure the country and eliminate oil leakages as the key to stabilizing the Nigerian currency, the naira. He expressed concern about the naira's decline in value, emphasizing that if Nigeria can enhance security and address oil leakages, it will attract foreign investment and help stabilize the currency.
Regarding fuel subsidy, Obi referred to it as organized crime and advocated for its removal while suggesting a phased approach that addresses corruption and excess demand. He emphasized the importance of reinvesting the gains from subsidy removal into critical development areas.
Lastly, Obi expressed his opposition to military intervention as a means of leadership emergence, stating that Nigeria should focus on addressing insecurity and economic challenges rather than engaging in conflicts with other nations.
